Posts not only come in text. To enrich the content, they may include images embedded inside. However, sometimes, you may not like to see those images but just to read the content. For example, not everybody likes to see advertisement, like the one below.
Here are three possible cases out of many in which you may want to strip out unwanted images.
1) When you don't like advertisement that is shown via embedded images
Based on your experience, you may come up with your own cases but sooner or later you come across a channel that gives you a hard time with its embedded images. Then how to eliminate them? Newzie includes a feature just for that purpose.
2) When loading all images takes too much time and affects the way you use html-based content presentation techniques provided by Newzie.
3) When shown images are irrelevant to the content and instead of dealing with images, you may just want to read the content in plain text.
How to block images with Newzie
If posts published thru one specific channel include images that you don't like to see, you can simply customize Newzie for that individual channel to see its published content in plain text without any image.
In order to do so, just open up the properties of that channel and switch to the tab named 'More'. Then select 'Strip out images in shown posts' option.
Block more than images
Newzie not only allows you to block images but also enables you to strip out any html makeup coming along with actual content. So if you don't like to read actual content in decorated version, you should choose the 'Strip out any html tag in shown post' option instead, which eliminates not only images but also any html code embedded inside.
This feature especially comes in handy to cure wrongly formatted content, which gives rise to visual anomallies when shown in the html-based presentations produced by Newzie. Moreover, stripping down to plain text can also be used for security purposes since decorated content may include malicious scripts that do things that you are not aware of.
To sum up
After all, we believe this is a small but a very neat feature that you will need sooner or later. Next version of Newzie will include couple of small features to power up this feature. Other than that, we believe by the help of your suggestions, in the future, we can perfect this feature to cover more specific cases and get it more useful for your needs and requirements.
To make it better, please send us your suggestions on this via email or Contact Us panel.
